To-Do

A list of things that I have thought about and may want to some some day (or more likely, not…):

Easy item-level check-in:

So we have FourSquare/Gowalla for checking into a place.  What about the objects, people, and events inside the place?  nTag attempted person-to-person before, StickyBits is tackling objects, among many others that use RFID, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, QR Code….the list goes on.  The technology choice is critical here, as many of these “Internet of Things” projects never take off because of the complexity.  Anything that requires a user to click more than once (or even once) is potentially not good enough.

Gesture-driven Signages

Digital signages are cool.  But they have not prove their ROIs.  So we still see crappy content everywhere - ads blasting at us on highways, malls, etc.  It turns an otherwise ingenious invention (i.e. cheap HDTV) into an evil outlet.

How can we create good content?  Users go up to TV and naturally may touch it (“is it a touchscreen?”).  We all will be comfortable using gestures within the next 3-5 years thanks to the iPhone, and we will have large touchscreens.  So build good interactive content for these - make the whole experience two-way everywhere.  Now we can have “click-through” like metrics for advertisers / sponsors.

An alternative to that is to use Project Natal like 3D cameras.  Now we can do awesome stuff in large remote screens like those in Times Square.
